One of the main advantages of Prevail® is
economy of scale. When dealing with large electronic
document collections, it is far less expensive
and far more efficient to review HTML rendered
documents online than to create TIFF images or
PDF files of every single document. Other cost
savings are also achieved because Prevail's web-hosting
pricing is on a per megabyte/per month basis rather
than per hour, per document, per seat, or per
software license. In other words, the cost is
the same whether you have two or 200 simultaneous
reviewers using Prevail for one hour or 24 hours
per day.
Another advantage to using Prevail is that it is a purely web-based application, built on Microsoft's .NET framework, designed specifically for reviewing, organizing and producing large collections of electronic documents. To provide the best possible performance, Prevail displays HTML (the lingua franca of the web) versions of original documents rather than TIFF images or PDF versions, both of which are typically much larger in size and can be slow to download and review over the internet. In our experience, HTML documents render from one to three times faster than other document types. When a reviewer accesses a document in Prevail, the entire document is displayed, not just a single page of it. In other words, after the initial display, there is no more waiting to display the next page.
Efficiencies with an HTML-based review stem from maintaining a more "native-like" review format. For example, being able to select text and copy it to the clipboard, hit-highlighting in a single review copy (no separation of text and image), annotating selected text, etc. HTML views are also rendered in full color, unlike a typical TIFF image version of a document. If viewing the native document is important to the review team, a copy of the original document can be downloaded on demand from within Prevail. True to its mantra of being a simple, fast, efficient review tool, Prevail focuses on supporting the core set of review features (search, categorize, organize, annotate), without unnecessary bells and whistles. Due to Prevail's minimal training requirements (training usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour) and quick learning curve, you can assign literally hundreds of reviewers to this task and have them quickly review and isolate documents requiring production. |
