Today's litigation support teams are under enormous
pressure to review huge volumes of electronic
evidence in the fastest possible timeframe and
within reasonable cost boundaries. The larger
and more complex the project, the harder it is
for reviewers to get through the amount of data
assigned to them quickly and in a thorough, accurate
manner. Emails with attachments pose a special
challenge as they can often comprise over half
of what needs to be reviewed, and need to be looked
at as a single "unit" in order to be categorized
or marked as privileged or for production.
Fios is the first electronic discovery service provider
to increase the speed and efficiency of review
by enabling an effective "chain-oriented" approach
for managing emails and their associated attachments.
The term "chain" can refer to a single loose file
or an email with all associated attachments. Fios
has advanced search capabilities in Prevail to
make it quick and easy to identify, group and
categorize entire chains and mark as privileged
or for production. The search enhancements reduce
the number of documents to review and set your
team up to more effectively use Prevail's Chain
Explorer™. Reviewers can rapidly categorize
documents by applying multiple categories to multiple
items in a chain.
Search Options Include:
- Redirect to the top of the
chain — Search returns the
originating or "parent" email in the chain.
- Redirect
to the top of the primary chain — Search
returns the first time the originating or "parent" email
is found in the data set.
In processing your
data, Fios tracks duplicate chains. A unique
FENS (Fios electronic numbering system) number
is assigned to each chain. The "primary
chain" is the first time Fios comes across this
chain in processing (chain with the lowest FENS
number). All subsequent chains with the same MD5
hash code are identified as duplicates.
- Expand
to include all documents in a chain — Search
returns the original document with your "search
hit" as well as all
other documents in that chain.
For instance, if you had a search hit in an email
attachment, this feature would also return the
originating email as well as any other attachments.
- Expand
to include all document copies (primaries and
duplicates) — Search
returns all items in a chain, in addition to
all duplicates of any of these items, related
to the initial search hit.
The features provided in Prevail address the requests
from our clients regarding the way they want to review
and produce evidence. Fios offers broader flexibility
to set up searches and create productions just the
way you want as well as the ability to more accurately
size the final production and eliminate surprises. |
