TechnologyCounsel.Org Launches to Help e-Discovery Experts Bridge Gap Between Law and Information Technology

New Information Portal, sponsored by Fios Inc., to Offer the Latest Trends, News, Blogs and Feature Articles on e-Discovery Issues and the Emerging Role of Office of Technology Counsel

PORTLAND, Ore., January 30, 2007 — Fios® Inc., a leading provider of electronic discovery and litigation readiness services, today announced the official launch of its third sponsored information portal, TechnologyCounsel.org. This new web portal is dedicated to supporting the emerging role of Technology Counsel and the legal practitioners who are bridging the gap between law and information technology (IT). TechnologyCounsel.org offers the latest news, trends, research, legal blogs, job boards and articles focused on legal and technology issues related to litigation, governmental investigations and compliance.

TechnologyCounsel.org joins DiscoveryResources.org and ComplianceResources.org as central educational resources sponsored by Fios. In addition to news, articles and industry research, TechnologyCounsel.org features a new industry Blog, entitled "Enterprise Matters," which provides guidance and observations on issues that technology counsel professionals can apply to their practices. The blog is supported by Mary Mack, Esq., and Daniel Pelc, Esq., Fios' Office of Technology Counsel and electronic discovery experts. Mack is also the author of the blog, "Sound Evidence," featured on DiscoveryResources.org.

"With the growing complexities of electronic discovery requests and the increased risks companies face when information flows in and out of the corporate firewalls for legal purposes, having a centralized expert that can bridge the gap between legal and IT is quickly rising in importance," said Mary Mack. "Our goal is to help educate the market and support the professionals that must manage technology and legal issues every day, as well as make it easier for companies to establish the Office of Technology Counsel to support these practitioners."

Market drivers, such as the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, costly Morgan Stanley-like rulings, and evolving technological advances, are requiring corporations to be more proactive when managing preservation, collection, processing, review and production of electronic evidence. Yet, in a recent survey by the Association for Information and Image Management International (AIIM) on the new electronic discovery rules:

  • 75% of the respondents describe their e-mail management strategy as "not yet begun" or "much remains to be done."
  • 55% would "somewhat disagree" or "strongly disagree" with the statement, "In the event of a lawsuit, we have clear policies and procedures in place outlining what to do relative to electronic information."
  • Only 41% of organizations have a formal program in place to address litigation readiness and electronic information.

This lack of preparedness and the high costs associated with disorganized business and legal processes are driving the growth of the role of Technology Counsel and the Office of Technology Counsel. TechnologyCounsel.org is now live and online to support this market need. More information can be found at www.technologycounsel.org.
