25 and Counting: State e-Discovery Rules Taking Shape

As of September 2009, 25 states have adopted e-discovery procedural rules that reflect the 2006 FRCP amendments and many others are considering changes. In this third annual Fios webcast, Tom Allman, the leading expert on state e-discovery rules, is interviewed by Mary Mack and provide an update on state-level activities, which continue to be a hotbed of innovation in e-discovery. Mack and Allman explore the following topic areas:
- The similarities, inconsistencies and differences among states’ efforts in adopting e-discovery rules
- Whether the amended FRCP have been successful in addressing e-discovery problems
- Recent case rulings and actions, including a deep dive into the August 14 amendments to the California Rules of Court

Mary Mack has more than 20 years experience delivering enterprise-wide e-discovery, managed services and software projects. She is a leading speaker and author on e-discovery issues, technology and the law. Mack writes the blog "Sound Evidence" on DiscoveryResources.org, and is a member of the Illinois Bar, ACC and the ABA Section of Litigation. She received her JD from Northwestern University School of Law and a BA from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY.

Tom was senior counsel to Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw (Chicago), having served as senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of BASF Corporation from 1993 to 2004. He currently co-chairs the E-Discovery Committee of the Lawyers for Civil Justice. Tom is co-chair of the Steering Committee of The Sedona Conference® Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production (WG1) and chaired its Special Project Team on E-Mail Management. He is active in ARMA, AIIM, ACC and the ABA.
