Cynthia Bateman, former global privacy and e-discovery director from Georgia-Pacific; Tom Mighell, e-discovery technology veteran and Web 2.0 expert from Cowles & Thompson, P.C.; and Scott Giordano, Esq., legal, technology and risk management attorney, have become the newest members of Fios Consulting. Cynthia Bateman comes to Fios after spending more than 13 years with Georgia-Pacific, most recently serving as the global privacy and e-discovery director. Bateman is adept at developing and implementing e-discovery programs that are legally defensible, cost efficient and in compliance with regulatory and court-defined rules. With nearly 20 years of industry experience, she earned her paralegal certification from the National Center for Paralegal Training in Atlanta and is certified by the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE). Bateman is a frequent speaker and contributor on best practices and challenges related to legal holds tracking, data accessibility and collections. She is an active member of The Sedona Conference, participating in both Working Group 1 focused on electronic document retention and production and in Working Group 6 focused on international electronic information management, discovery and disclosure.
Tom Mighell brings 18 years of litigation and litigation technology experience to Fios Consulting. Mighell is dedicated to helping clients prepare for and respond to litigation, and to understanding the technologies used in e-discovery and other litigation technology processes. He comes to Fios after spending 18 years as an attorney, litigation support coordinator and shareholder with the law firm Cowles & Thompson, P.C. Mighell is a nationally©\known and highly©\regarded author, speaker, blogger and authority on legal, technology and Internet issues and is the co-author of The Lawyer¡¯s Guide to Collaboration Tools and Technologies: Smart Ways to Work Together, published by the American Bar Association. He also served as the chair of ABA TECHSHOW 2008, a technology conference for legal professionals. Mighell received both his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
Scott Giordano is an attorney and Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) with 14 years legal, technology and risk management consulting experience. For the past five years, Giordano has been representing and counseling clients on risk mitigation strategies with respect to electronic commerce, information security and privacy issues. Prior to beginning his own practice, Giordano spent seven years as a risk management consultant for LexisNexis, where he consulted with corporations looking to implement legal technology solutions. Giordano is a frequent speaker and author and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (AFCE) and Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) advisory board. He earned his M.S. in Economic Crime Management from Utica College at Syracuse University, a J.D. and Masters of Business Administration from Santa Clara University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Long Beach State University.
